Some clients have a very strong desire to maintain their own websites. To that end, we can provide personal instruction for local clients who wish to purchase Dreamweaver, the web design software we use. We also have done telephone tutorials with clients who have purchased Dreamweaver. If you choose to purchase Adobe Dreamweaver, be aware that it's not a cheap program!

There are other website editing programs such as Microsoft FrontPage which claim to be easy to use. However, since we have no experience with FrontPage, we cannot provide assistance for clients wishing to use that program.

An alternative is to use a hosting company that offers a free web-based editing program so you can update your site with their user interface. One such company is www.bravenet.com. Bravenet also offers lots of free tools such as calendars, password protected pages and online email forms which the website owner can manage themselves. We can set up your tools and give you email or telephone instruction, if necessary.

Of the clients who have tried to maintain their own sites, many never got it, or quickly forgot how to use it. But a handful have managed to hang in there! If you have excellent computer skills, particularly in Word and Excel, you are a good candidate for learning Dreamweaver.

Another consideration are graphics. That requires a different program. We use Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop is a fabulous graphic editing program but is not easy to master.

Whichever way you choose to go, please bear in mind you will need to commit to learning how to use the new software. If you are very impatient or not an accomplished computer user, the learning curve may overwhelm you!
